Meeting of the research group.
In the hospitable space of Łaźnia Cooperative a meeting was held of the research group from Academy of Art, Association of Education, Science, Culture, and University of Szczecin.
The aim of the meeting was to discuss the project’s objective, its theoretical framework, and the subject of the empirical study; to recognize the scientific potential of the research group in Szczecin and to coordinate work towards the start of the project on the 8th of May.
Paweł Klimek, the Chairman of the Board of the Foundation "Witryna Kultury", welcomed all who came to the meeting, and expressed his interest in the investigation on visual communication in social dimensions and wishes to join the TICASS project.
Subsequently led by Dr. Aleksandra Łukaszewicz Alcaraz, TICASS Main Coordinator, the theoretical framework and the subject of the study were elaborated during working sessions at University of Szczecin held by Prof. Elżbieta Perzycka, Prof. Maria Czerepaniak-Walczak, Dr. Sylwia Bąkowska, and Dr. Aleksandra Łukaszewicz Alcaraz.
The main theoretical framework was defined as pragmatic and neopragmatic with references to Charles Sanders Peirce, John Dewey, and Richard Rorty; the main question to be asked is: is it possible to think about visual communication as a new lingua franca?
In the following discussions the subject of the study was defined as pragmatic utility of technologies of imagining in visual communication and in art in urban spaces, in contexts of cultural and social differences. The pragmatic utility was decided to be understood as orientation for the practical dimension, for an experience as this is present in the Shannon-Weaver model of communication.
After considering the above issues, all participants of the meeting briefly presented themselves and their focus of interest in the research.
Aleksandra Łukaszewicz Alcaraz also presented the plan for events taking place during the first secondment in May-June 2017.
The meeting was closed with setting up plans for preparations of questionnaires, interviews, applications to be used, meetings with representatives from ministries, ethical forms, and exhibitions.
